Provider Access Policy
This policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under section 42B of the Education act 1997.
Young Person Entitlement
All young people at Ancora House, aged 13-18 years old, are entitled:
- To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point.
- To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships- through visiting speakers, assemblies, group discussions and tutor sessions.
- To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
Young people at Ancora House School are with us for varied periods of time and will have followed their base school’s programme to ensure that the minimum of two encounters for young people at each key stage is met. The support of our young people needs to be flexible and as varied as the young people we work alongside. We maintain excellent relationships with the young person’s base school. We also offer all young people as much ongoing support with ‘next steps’ as is needed.
Provider encounters are scheduled during the education offer in the hospital timetable, and the provider is given a reasonable amount of time to, as a minimum,
- Share information about the provider and the approved technical education qualification and apprenticeship that the provider offers
- Explain what careers route the options could lead to
- Provide insights into what it might be like to learn or train with that provider (including to meet staff and, where appropriate, other young people from the provider)
- Answer questions from young people
Meaningful provider encounters
One encounter is defined as one meeting/session between young people and one provider. We are committed to providing meaningful encounters to all young people using the ‘making it meaningful checklist’ Making it Meaningful: Benchmark 7 | CEC Resource Directory (careersandenterprise.co.uk). We also encourage meaningful online engagement and are open to providers who are able to provide live online engagement with our young people.

In previous terms/ years, we have invited the following providers from the local area to speak to our young people.
Destinations
From the day of admission to Ancora House Hospital, we are working with young people towards their discharge. Unless NEET on admission, KS4 and 5 young people largely return to their base schools or Post 16 provider or an appropriate alternative provision. Links are made with local careers services for young people who are NEET upon discharge.

The feedback from our partners is extremely positive, many of them comment on how they benefit from working with our young people as much as the young people benefit from working with them.
